Updating to 2022: Unfortunately my main update is a sad one – my beloved husband, Donald Sarles, passed away in December 2021. After 40 wonderful years of marriage, I am reluctantly forging a life on my own. (Photo of us a couple years ago.)

Don and I lived in the Washington DC area until 2010, then moved full-time to Maine where we’d vacationed for years, buying an old farmhouse on 20 acres. As an electrical engineer, he excelled at house improvements and repairs, and he loved tending his large vegetable garden.

I majored in mathematics and music at Dickinson College, later completed an MA in musicology at NYU. I’ve kept both interests going all these years. I worked for 25 years as a mathematician and computer programmer. After retiring from that, I became (and still am) active as a musicologist, working as editor and writer for Grove’s Dictionaries of Music (OUP) and serving in leadership roles with the American Musical Instrument Society.

Especially now that I’m alone, I appreciate the small-town aspects of Maine. I volunteer at the town library and with a local land trust. No children, but I dote on nieces and nephews in Maryland.
