John had a varied career that included being an on-air radio personality in PA, NJ, and WDC; forming a company "The Idea Machine" to produce commercials for TV, radio and print; and being editor or managing editor of local newspapers in SC. His last job was with Swift Transportation in Greer, SC, from which he retired in 2005. He had a lifelong enjoyment of theater productions, acting in and directing plays in Tryon Little Theater (NC). He was also president of St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, Columbus, NC. He died at his home in Landrum, SC. He was survived by his wife Cathy, and a brother and sister in Maryland.
