Clifford, who died on May 28, 2014, was married to Kit Needham for 41 years and had two daughters, Catherine Needham and Lauren Palmer; he was also survived by two sisters, Martha Needham Wilson and Mary Needham Hartman. He graduated with a degree in business from Franklin & Marshall College, PA, then entered the banking and financial services field in Washington, DC, where he worked for several companies, notably Riggs National Bank, where he was a vice president. He was a member of the vestry at St. Columba's Episcopal church and was president of his Rotary Club. In 2000 the family moved to Pittsburgh, where he volunteered at St. Margaret Hospital and as a docent at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium, where he shared so many stories about the polar bears that he became known as "The Bear Man." He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Oakmont, PA, and was a regular at the Tuesday Blue Grass jam sessions at the Starlite Lounge in Blawnox.
